3 New Years Resolution Ideas

Sunday Jan 1 2023

Note: This is the voice over I wrote for the video I published on YouTube, in case you didn't see it, I'll post it at the end of the blog...

Every one knows, with the dropping of the ball on New Years eve, and the turn of the year on New Years day, comes New Years resolutions. I’ve never really been a big fan of New Years resolutions. Mostly because I never stick to them, nor does anyone else that I know, but this year i’m kind of excited about resolutions, and I’ll tell you why in a minute.

I’d like to share a few ideas I’ve been thinking about, ideas, or maybe concepts I think someone like me could stick to, and then, one I’m going to call, my 2023 New Years resolution.

This year, I’m going to try to think of it in 3’s.

What I mean is, I don’t just want to pick one thing I’m going to do or change in the new year. I want to pick 3, that way I have a greater chance of at least sticking to 1 by the end, better yet, what I thought was, what if I pick 1 big resolution I want to try to achieve over the entire year.

1 medium resolution and,

1 small one.

Let me give an example.

I’ve always been into fitness but never really stuck with it so,

1 big one could be to finish a 5k run by the end of 2023

1 medium one could be to go for a jog at least once a week, I would try to pick a day and stick to it, and see if I can track how far I go and beat it every week.

1 small one could be to take 15 minutes and stretch every morning before I leave the house.

These are all just ideas of course, and they will vary greatly depending on the person, the situation, and the desire, but they are just ideas anyway!

The thought is to have a big goal like running a 5k, surrounded by smaller more attainable goals, in the same realm, to allow you small victories that help lead you to accomplishing the bigger goals.

What do you think?

So as for me, Over the past several years I have been tormenting myself. I have found a passion for storytelling and creativity. Something I’ve been looking for for a long time. I have been making videos and sharing blog posts for the last few years trying to figure out how to combine this passion I have, with my lifestyle, and connect with an audience, But I have been driving myself crazy, struggling, trying to figure out how!

This past August I had an exciting opportunity to start working with my Uncle Rory on the farm telling stories and helping create an app called The Homestead Channel, and it has been a life changing experience that I want to tell folks about.

But, what I’ve found is, Having a full time job, along with a family and many other things going on in life makes becoming a creator very difficult for me.

Yet I still capture my life and what I’m thinking and doing regardless. And, Since sobering up from drugs and alcohol in 2016, I have been on a life changing journey, learning how to live life again sober, along with finding my faith, and striving daily to become a better person in any and every way.

So I thought, what if every week I keep my eyes and ears open for the things I’m learning on the homestead and at home, along with the things I am capturing in my life, and try to share them in the form of ideas, thoughts and stories on a monthly or weekly basis.

So, This year, I’ve decided I want to try something new, I want to learn 3 new things every month, or possibly every week, in 2023, and share them. Possibly in a blog post, social media post, or a video, or maybe even all 3. They will be things I’m learning about life, storytelling, faith, homesteading, DIY, and so on… My hope is it somehow takes the pressure of trying to formulate a bigger story from my life all the time, and rather, I just keep an eye open for things I’m learning, what’s happening, and how I’m feeling about things, and share them through my perspective, my lens. This way I get to share stories not only on the homestead but here on my YouTube channel and possibly share some insight and maybe even some value to people that want to watch.

Hope this helps,

Happy New Year,

Mikel

I wanted to quit, I wanted to give up. But I had something itching inside me. So I tried something different, something true to myself...
